As I meandered through the pathways creatively set up in this small bookstore, one of my favorite sections was the entryway to the children’s area. Cut out of a bookshelf is an entrance that is the perfect size for a child. It made my husband and I both want to be children again and walk through this strange entryway. What a delightful discovery for a child to find…an entrance designed for just them! Yes, this is a creative use of space, but it also allows us who have bypassed those years of childhood to revisit them again. When I saw this area my heart connected immediately to the Harry Potter fan in me with a large sign for Flourish and Blotts. Opposite the sign was the entryway that at first made me smile, then made me nostalgic, and finally made me curious as to what was on the opposite side of the opening where I could walk through a bookshelf. How many of us crave the ability to walk through a magical portal and find ourselves in Narnia or Hogsmeade?

I went into this bookstore for several reasons. As I stated previously, the ability to experience a new place, yes, but also to support a local, independent bookseller and to purchase a book from the area I was visiting. I love to ask for recommendations. The two women that we interacted with were kind, humorous and were proud of their special literary haven. The clerk I spoke with recommended Nathaniel Philbrick (fabulous historical author) and brought me to the Nantucket section. I felt more in the mood for fiction and ended up purchasing Elin Hilderbrand’s Silver Girl. Ms. Hilderbrand is an author who lives on Nantucket and writes novels that take place on that lovely island. I will write a review on this book soon (hint: I thoroughly enjoyed it)

Nantucket Bookworks is not only a beautiful book store on an equally beautiful island, it is a treasure trove for the bibliophile, dreamer, and a place I highly recommend should you ever be blessed to visit Nantucket. Whether you are stopping by to peruse the bookshelves or if you are looking for a unique gift or just want to let your imagination play, Nantucket Bookworks and it’s staff are not to be missed.
I give it 5 Books out of 5 📖📖📖📖📖
